Getting Started with Braces

Congratulations on starting your Braces Treatment!

Brushing Your Teeth and Braces

  • Brush your teeth at least 2 times a day and if possible also after each meal
  • If you are unable to brush after eating, please try to rinse your mouth thoroughly with water to remove any food debris
  • When brushing your teeth, position your toothbrush bristles at a 45 degree angle downwards and also upwards towards your gum line to remove all food and plaque from your teeth.
  • Floss at least once daily, threading under the wire between each tooth with a floss threader or using a floss pick designed for braces

Soreness and Irritation

For the first few days, you may experience some discomfort, but do not worry! It is normal for your teeth to feel sore. If it is bothering you, you can take a painkiller like Tylenol. Your lips and cheeks may have some irritation or sore spots but the irritation will go away after a few days. Please text us if the area continues to be an issue, you can try covering the irritated area with a generous amount of wax.
